Monthly Maintenance Tasks

Wind Pump / Engines

The water tank should be kept topped up. Occasionally it may need to be cleaned out. The water tanks should be drained at the end of the season, prior to winter.

Grass - Other

Trim edges around buildings, pumps and wind generator.

Foundation

Inspect visible areas, vents and ducts for cracks, leaks or blockages.

Hedges and Fencing

Check hedge growth and trim as necessary. Remove as much weed/bramble growth as practicable. Check all fencing.

Sewage Sump

Visually inspect sump to ensure not filling with detritus, If pump appears clogged, start/stop pump after adding water. If still not clear shut off discharge valve, remove pump and check.

Lighting

Check all lighting in and outside of buildings. Repair as required. Ensure appropriate spares are on site.

Smoke Detectors

Test for operation, replacing batteries if necessary. Six detectors.

  • Mill
    • On stone floor above sprattle beam for breast stone.
    • Attached to bottom of flour bin in way of wire machine inlet chute.
  • Roundhouse.
    • Two on post.
  • Workshop - on ceiling.
  • Gatehouse - on ceiling
  • Kitchen - on ceiling

NOTE: At end of season, either, cover detectors with plastic to protect them from fly spray, or, remove batteries if not 10 year type. Replace batteries and remove covering before new season, as required.

Mill Microphone

Check operation and battery condition, repairing/replacing as required. Before 1st Sunday in April.
