Quarterly Maintenance Tasks

Windmill

Brake Wheel Teeth

Check the brake wheel teeth for tightness.

Brake Wheel Wind Shaft Box

Check folding wedges holding brake wheel to wind shaft box section and steel straps on box section for tightness.


Wind Pump (1) & Wind Engine (2)

Wind Pump: Lubrication

Lubricate wind shaft bearings with oil and grease gears. Post bearing, shears to lubricate with tallow. At each operation check Bearing Oil (1). Use at least one full Staufer grease cap full of waterproof grease once a year.

Wind Pump/Engines: Clean & Lubricate

Clean and relubricate the pump linkages with water proof grease (1&2).

Wind Engine (2)

Gearbox - Top up as required. Observe if any water or emulsion in oil and ensure all surfaces free of rust & oil-coated (quarterly). Drain oil, clean box & refill with correct oil every 5 years (2) DO NOT OVERFILL - note oil level mark on outside of gearbox.

Wind Engine (2)

Lubricate Tail bearing points, thrust bearing greaser, stop spring & its connections (2). Lubricate chain, chain wheel & pulley assembly inside tube.


Wind Generator

Wind Generator Tail

Tail furling (page 10 of manual) including furling mechanism & headgear rotation. Lube ball joints & bearings with waterproof grease.


Buildings / Grounds / Equipment etc.

Foundation

Inspect visible areas, vents, and ducts for cracks, leaks, or blockages.

Gutters and downpipes

Clear detritus, check for leaks, downpipes are clear intact. Also security of all fixings.

Rooves

Check & repair - Dislodged / missing tiles or other damage.

Lawn and patio furniture

Check for wear & tear & damage.

Windows / Shutters

Clean & check for operation.


Electrical

Wiring, elect cords, & plugs

Check for wear or damage. Repair / replace as necessary.

GFI outlets (ground fault interrupter)

Test for proper operation - 2 in workshop / 1 below grannery / 1 in main electrical supply box / 1 in gate house.
