The Friends of High Salvington Mill was formed in 1976 by the people of High Salvington. Worthing Borough Council had bought the Mill in 1959 and spent some money on essential repairs, but, after a stock broke in a storm in 1976, the site was closed to the public because the mill was considered to be in a dangerous state.
