Windmill

Shaft neck & Tail bearings

Lubricate with grease.

Post collar

Lubricate Collar (round post) with molten tallow.

Samson Head

Lubricate Samson head with tallow also check tension of nuts & bolts.

Grinding Stones

Lift breast runner stone at the end of the grinding season to clean & inspect and clean the stones.

Chutes tun, flour bins etc.

Inspect & clean the chutes tun, flour bins etc. that have been in contact with flour.

Bed stone bearing

Dismantle bed stone bearing, inspect for wear, clean and grease.

Hackle Plate Leather washer

Check the hackle plate leather washer for signs of wear and ingress of grain or flour.

Bridge Tree footstep bearing

Check footstep bearing on the bridge tree. Clean out and ensure sufficient oil in the oil bath.

Brake band

Check brake band for rubbing on brake wheel.

Sails

Check sails for damage or anything untoward.

Buck entrance steps brackets

Paint threads on brackets- Inspect yearly & paint / repair as required.

Mill exterior steps

Inspect step treads for damage and anti-slip qualities.

Mill exterior steps hand rail

The vertical stanchions especially at their bases and hand rail to be checked.

Round House Wall

Paint with tar - Inspect yearly & paint / repair as required.

Roundhouse walls- Weather stripping

Check caulking around exterior walls. Repair & paint as required.

Round House Roof

Inspect yearly & repair as required - This is under guarantee until 2040.

Buck - (Mill body) & steps

Repaint with Sadolin - Inspect yearly & paint / repair as required.

Gudgen wedges & Iron Clamps

Check gudgen wedges, holding poll end to wind shaft, are tight. If loose knock wedges back into place & tighten box section bolts.

Sag Irons (Mill tension bars)

Check security/tightness of sag irons. Throughout mill structure. (8 in total).


WIND PUMP (1) & WIND ENGINE (2)

Wind pump / engines

The water tank should be kept topped up, occasionally cleaned out but drained at the end of the season prior to winter. (1&2).

Wind pump/engine operation

Check the pump for operation / function (1&2).

Wind pump structure (1)

Paint the wood in Sadolin. (1) - Inspect yearly & paint / repair as required.

Wind engine structure (2)

Paint iron parts in suitable oil paint. (2) - Inspect yearly & paint / repair as required.

Wind engine (2)

Inspect 'fan' (2) - paint / repair as required.


WIND GENERATOR

Wing Generator - Structure

Inspect repair & paint structure as required.

Wing Generator - Propeller

Inspect Propeller - fixings coating etc. (page 10 of manual).

Wind Generator - Head

Fill head gear oilers, oil soak wool wick & spin the whole head ensuring rotating contact in head is making good contact with the top of the stand. Ensure moving parts all free to spin. Ensure rotating head oil well is topped up (motor oil).

Grease Dynamo. (page 9 of manual).

Wind Generator Dynamo carbon brushes

Dynamo carbon brush check (page 9 of manual) - includes commutator, field fuse, El wiring & associated connections (page 10).

Wind Generator - Dynamo contacts

Mast top fitting (page 10 of manual) raise dynamo & check rotating contact.


Buildings / Grounds / Equipment etc.

Landscaping

Trim shrubbery around walls. Remove tree limbs, branches, or debris that can cause tripping hazard or interfere with Mill rotation.

Attics

Examine for evidence of any leaks. Check insulation and remove or add if necessary. Check for evidence of birds, squirrels, etc. Check for proper ventilation. Any signs of detoriation or damage.

Toilets

Deep clean toilets before the start of the season, check for stability of basins & pans and leaks. Check flush syphons.

Buildings-Exterior of Gate Hse/Barn/Granary

Clean down exterior boarding with sugar soap and repaint - Inspect yearly & paint / repair as required.

Buildings

Repaint windows and door frames - Inspect yearly & paint / repair as required.

Main Building - shop frontage

Varnish walls and paint ceilings - Inspect yearly & paint / repair as required.

Kitchen

Decoration i.e. painting etc. Inspect yearly & paint / repair as required.

Powered Garden Equipment

Hedge trimmer & strimmer - replace blades, clean plug and change oil before start of season. Mower arrange annual service.

Tables & trestles

Inspect for damage and repair/replace as required.

Fire Extinguishers

Fire extinguishers are located as follows: 2 in round house (CO2 & Foam), 3 in Buck (foam- 2 on stone floor 1 on spout floor), 1 in Gate House. This as carried out by Worthing Borough Council.

Picket Fencing

Check for damage / wear & tear & damage. Repair / paint as required.


Electrical

Distribution boxes 'T' opening tools

Check 'T' opening tool located on top of each distribution box - (5 Boxes). Operate clasps & door.

Sewage control box operation

Check operation of 'stop' and 'start'.

Circuit Breakers

Visually check circuit breakers & 'exercise'. 3-off JBs, 1 in gate house, 1 in workshop & 1 in cabinet near road.

Round house electrical leads

Inspect electrical switches, leads in the round house, power sockets & lights.
