OPENING UP THE MILL SITE FOR THE PUBLIC.

Granary- check list

Unlock door and put down steps. Ensure granary is neat and tidy.

Put out computer and video stored in shop.

Kitchen –check list

The door is unlocked and staff and float are available.

The folding shutters are securely bolted.

The water urns is filled and put on at least 2 hours ahead.

The sink is clean.

The floor and surfaces are clean.

The water heaters are turned on.

Tea pots and crockery are clean and available.

The cakes are defrosted

Shop – Check list.

The door is unlocked and there is a float.

The folding shutters are securely bolted open and that there are staff available.

The pamphlet display stand is set up outside the shop on a table.

The computer is taken to the granary.

Workshop – Check list

This should normally be locked at all times.

If the quern is being used, it should be placed in the open area or outside the workshop. It should be clean and have a supply of grain, plastic bags and a donation box.

Toilets – Check list

The toilets and basins are clean and bins are empty.

The floor is clean. ( Especially if a wet day )

There is sufficient toilet paper.

The hand driers are turned on.

The hot water is turned on.

The automatic cistern in the “Gents” is turned on.

The bench seats stored in the women’s toilet are placed outside.

The lights are on.

The doors are unlocked.

Gatehouse – Check list

The gatehouse is unlocked and that there is a float.

The desk and seats are put outside.

The disclaimer board is put out.

The advertising boards are put out on the A24 and A27.

Roundhouse – Check list

The door is unlocked and the lights are on.

The netting and stanchions are put round the mill if there is enough wind to run. The wind pump notice board and safety fence is put up.

The round house is neat and tidy.

The Mill – Check list

The mill should be clean and lights put on.

The timber chocks for the brake wheel must be removed if the mill is to be run. (This normally requires two persons).

The brake rope is uncoiled and put through the removed hatch or pop hole

The peg and wedge on the brake lever is removed.

The cloth cover over the hopper and vat may be removed during the opening time. The wooden cover on the vat should remain in place.

NB. The vat cover may be replaced by a perspex cover at the discretion of the senior miller and by him alone. Under no circumstances should anyone remove it or allow any person to touch the flour in the vat, for reasons of hygiene

The grain bins on the spout floor are covered with the sacks.

Glynde Wind Pump – Check list

Ensure the safety fence is in place.

Put up the information notice board which is stored in the roundhouse.

Ensure the sweeps are anchored to the quarter bars.

NB The wind pump may be run at the discretion of the senior miller.

CLOSING DOWN THE MILL SITE AFTER OPENING TO THE PUBLIC

The Senior Miller responsible for the session must ensure that the mill and site is left in a secure state and that any equipment is securely stored away.

Granary. – Check list

There are no lights on and nothing left plugged into the electric mains.

The computer is stored in the shop.

The door is locked.

Kitchen – Check list.

The folding shutters are securely bolted.

That all taps are turned off.

The water urns are empty.

Tea pots and crockery are stored away.

There are no lights on and nothing left plugged into the electric mains.

The freezers have the doors closed.

The floor is clean. ( Especially if a wet day )

The sink is clean.

The water heaters are turned off.

The door is locked.

The money is given to the Treasurer.

Shop – Check list.

The folding shutters are securely bolted.

There are no lights on and nothing left plugged into the electric mains.

The pamphlet display stand is in the shop.

The computer from the granary is stored in the shop.

The door is locked.

The money is given to the Treasurer

Workshop – Check list

The quern has been cleaned and put into the workshop.

There are no lights on and nothing left plugged into the electric mains.

The door is locked.

Toilets – Check list

The bins are empty.

The toilets and basins are clean.

The floor is clean. ( Especially if a wet day )

There is sufficient toilet paper for the next open day.

The hand driers are turned off.

The hot water is turned off.

The Mill – Check list

The timbers are in place chocking the brake wheel. ( This requires two persons )

The peg and wedge on the brake lever.

The hopper and the eye of the stone are covered with the cloth.

The wooden cover is on the vat. The

The windows and hatches are shut or in place.

The brake rope is inside and coiled on its cleat.

The “Pop holes” are in place.

The grain bins on the spout floor are covered with the sacks.

There are no lights on and nothing left plugged into the electric mains.

The door is locked.

Glynde Wind Pump – Check list

Ensure the sweeps are anchored to the quarter bars

Ensure the fence is in place.

Ensure the information notice board is stored in the roundhouse.
