Lead Guide Site Closure Procedure

From High Salvington Mill Trust

To close up the Mill on an open day, the Lead Guide must:

  1. Ensure that the takings and float are collected and given to the Treasurer,
  2. Ensure that the tickets are returned and stored in the Gatekeepers desk. If tickets are missing, then the Guide Organiser needs to be notified to print out replacements for the missing tickets. The tally sheet should be handed to the guide organiser or left in the desk for later collection.
  3. Ensure that the gate fence is taken down and stowed in the gatehouse, along with the “Open” and “Liability” signs.
  4. Ensure that the water and power are turned off in the toilets, the benches are stowed in the Ladies, in such a way that access to the toilet is still possible, and the toilets are locked up.
  5. Ensure that the tables and chairs are put away. They usually go in the granary, but if the millwrights are still lime-plastering, then they may go in the kitchen.
  6. Ensure that the multimedia equipment (Macintosh) in the granary is packed away in the shop, the tables and chairs are stowed, if appropriate, and that the granary is locked.
  7. Ensure that the shop is locked and the picnic tables stowed and padlocked in the bay outside.
  8. Ensure that the urn is emptied, that the water and lights are off in the kitchen, the hatches are secured, everything is tidily put away and the kitchen is locked.
  9. Ensure that the net fence around the sails is rolled up and stowed in the roundhouse.
  10. Ensure that the Glynde Wind Pump explanatory board is stowed in the roundhouse.
  11. Ensure that the roundhouse is locked up.
  12. Ensure that the brake wheel is chocked, the grain bin covered with a cloth, the cover is back over the stone and the tin over the greasy end of the quant, especially if the mill has been run.
  13. Ensure that the mill is locked up, and that the top half of the stable door is secured – use the top latch and not the newer low latch!
  14. Ensure that the Gatekeepers desk and chair is put away and the Gatehouse is locked.
  15. Ensure that all members of the public and volunteers have left the Mill Field.
  16. Ensure that the gate is locked.
  17. Collect and return the A24 and A27 sandwich boards to the Gatehouse.
  18. Ensure the Gatehouse and Gate are locked.
