The John Gruber collection of motorised model windmills was donated to High Salvington Mill Trust Limited on 17th March 2021 by Martin and Jenny Tillman who were clearing the deceased John Gruber's house. The models are currently being stored at the mills registered address (12 Furzeholme) while the Trust Board decide how they should be managed and where they should be displayed.
John Gruber's model windmill collection is comprised of the following models.
- Burgh Le Marsh Mill
- Chesterton Tower Mill
- Clayton (Jill) Post Mill
- Heckington Power Mill
- Margate Horizontal Mill
- Nutley Post Mill
- Spanish Thatched Mill
- West Blatchington Smock Mill
- West Chiltington Smock Mill
All of the models are motorised and have a switch for turning on the rotation of the sails. Some of the models have disguised switches, e.g. the Chesterton Tower Mill model uses rotation of the pennant on the top of the cap while the Jill Post Mill model uses rotation of the Weight Wheel on the rear of the body for the same purpose. Each model is powered by a single AA battery in a holder.
